CFC Sends 'Jean of the Jonses' Filmmaking Team to Tribeca All Access Program

Stella Meghie and Amo Adetuyi will participate in the Tribeca All Access program
The CFC (Canadian Film Centre) announced today that the filmmaking team behind Jean of the Jonses has been selected to attend the Tribeca All Access program (TAA) at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival. Attending TAA for Jean of the Jonses are writer/director Stella Meghie and producer Amos Adetuyi of CircleBlue Films. Meghie’s previous credits include the CFC short Frost and Recovering Undercover over Love, the latter of which she wrote, produced, and directed, while Adetuyi has produced films such as Beat the World and High Chicago. By participating in TAA, which was created to help foster and nurture relationships between film industry executives and filmmakers from statistically underrepresented communities, the filmmakers will have significant opportunity to partake in intimate workshops and networking opportunities with peers from different corners of the film industry.

Jean of the Jonses continues the seven-year partnership between Tribeca All Access and the Canadian Film Centre, which acts as the Canadian affiliate of the Tribeca All Access program and is the international filter for all Canadian projects and filmmakers both living in Canada and abroad. This partnership has supported nine feature film projects including Rhymes for Young Ghouls, one of the breakout hits for Canadian film in 2013. Rhymes (written and directed by Jeff Barnaby, and produced by John Christou and Aisling Chin-Yee) won the Tribeca 2012 Creative Promise Award for Narrative before going on to premiere at 2013 Toronto International Film Festival, playing to critical acclaim and earning citations from TIFF’s Canada’s Top Ten and the Canadian Screen Awards. (The film is currently playing in Toronto.)

Meghie and Adetuyi hope to mirror Rhymes’ success by participating in TAA with Jean of the Jonses. Jean of the Jonses is a comedy/drama about a girl from a dysfunctional family of Jamaican women who have happily sent all the men in their lives running for the past 30 years. The script for has already received accolades and consultations from several film festivals, including BET’s Urbanworld Film Festival and the Atlanta Film Festival, and the TAA/CFC partnership ensures that Meghie and Adetuyi will receive additional mentorship and marketplace support. Tribeca All Access takes place on April 21-24 in New York City.
