Misc. Canadian Film Awards News: CCE Nominees and Peabody win for 'Highrise'

Sorry, it’s been one of those weeks. I missed a few snippets of Canadian awards news over the past few days starting with the nominations for the Canadian Cinema Editors (CCE) awards honouring the best editing in film, TV, and media. “Degrassi” and “Orphan Black” lead the television nominations, while the film honourees include strong picks like The Husband and The Ghosts in Our Machine, which were both underrepresented in Canuck awards this year.

In other awards news, the NFB’s interactive documentary History of the Highrise scooped a Peabody Award recognizing outstanding achievements in electronic media. Highrise is an innovative and interactive doc that lets users explore the changing face of urban living in a multi-chapter story narrated by the like of Cold Specks and Feist. (Write-up here.) Highrise has now won several top honours including including the inaugural IDFA DocLab Award for Digital Storytelling, an International Digital Emmy Award, and the first-ever award for Best Original Program for Digital Media, Non-Fiction, at the Canadian Screen Awards.
