The European Union Film Festival
is easily the most popular
film festival within the Canadian Film Institute
’s annual programme, so Ottawa filmgoers will be pleased to hear
that they may tide themselves over until the next festival with a selection of
short films from the European Union. The European Union Short Film Festival It’s Time for Shorts!

runs May 8th
in Ottawa and is free
to the public.

is presented by
the European Union National Institutes for Culture (EUNIC)
, in collaboration with the Member
States of the European Union, and in association with SAW Video
and the Canadian Film
It’s Time for Shorts!
features seventeen films from 13 countries. The highlights include the Irish festival
circuit mega-hit The Missing Scarf
narrated by George Takei, which was among the 10 films shortlisted for Best
Animated Short for the 2013 Academy Awards. A double-bill of Latvian films
includes the tale of an animated bull fight in Korida
, will the Swedish animated short Glenn the Great Runner
tells of a different race. France’s animated
offering Lettres de femmes
of the stronger festival hits screening in It’s
Time for Shorts
and Austria’s Maybes
took home the prize for best short at the country’s equivalent of the Academy
Awards. This healthy line-up isn’t short on accolades!
