The Toronto Film Critics Association (TFCA) gave its prize for Best Canadian Film of 2015 to Guy Maddin and Evan Johnson's wild, crazy, and wonderful The Forbidden Room. I couldn't agree more. It's the best Canadian film of the year. The award carries a cash prize of $100 000 sponsored by Rogers.

Also nominated for the Canuck prize were Andrew Cividino's Sleeping Giant and Philippe Falardeau's My Internship in Canada. Other Canadian winners included Anne Émond, who won the Jay Scott Prize for Les êtres chères (Our Loved Ones) as an emerging artist (the film, screens with Forbidden Room, Sleeping Giant and Internship as part of Canada's Top Ten next week... so check back for a review!), while Deepa Mehta gave the Clyde Gimour Prize to filmmaker Nisha Pahuja (The World Before Her). All other winners were announced in December.
