Kicking Off TIFF with Previews of 'The Stone Speakers' and Shorts at POV

TIFF starts this week! I'll be covering the festival at POV, BeatRoute, and odds and ends here. Stuff is quite heavily embargoed this year (understandably so - it's fair for us to be asked to hold coverage), so reviews and whatnot won't appear as quickly as they normally would. Stay tuned for things as they appear before, during, and after the festival.

Coverage kicks off with two features in the new issue of POV. (In the mail for subscribers!) In the first, I chat with director Igor Drljaca (The Waiting Room), who delivers his first documentary feature with the strange, humorous, and haunting The Stone Speakers. This film is one you'll definitely want to catch with a Q&A to get the most of the experience. Read more about The Stone Speakers in the article "Sites of Memory."

Plus, get a few recommendations for short films with Veslemoy's Song and Norman Norman along with the Hot Docs hits Prince's Tale and Pumpkin Movie. In "Short Circuit," I chat with directors Sofia Bohdanowicz, Sophy Romvari, and Jamie Miller to highlight three of the notable emerging voices on the Toronto film scene. (Among many - the perils of print space! Perhaps we'll see more in future articles.)

Stay tuned for more TIFF coverage!
